Castel dell’Ovo in Naples also shines again at night. The striking new lighting look thanks to Enel Sole and Sa.Gest

Castel dell’Ovo shines again even at night. Thanks to the intervention of Enel Sole (and its partnership with Sa.Gest.), the ancient fortress on the rocky islet of Megaride dominates even in the night hours, with its imposing beauty, the ancient Borgo Marinaro offering an evocative and unique spectacle.

The new lighting system was turned on Dec. 21 by the mayor of Naples, Luigi De Magistris, and the general manager of Enel Sole, Giovanni Maria Pisani.
“I thank Enel Sole for their valuable willingness to help,” said the first citizen of Campania’s capital city, “which will allow us to admire with a new artistic illumination the wonderful borgo Marinaro and Castel Dell’Ovo. A unique landscape and artistic setting that the citizens and tourists of Naples will be able to enjoy, from today in a new light that will enhance its extraordinary beauty even more.”

De Magistris, stressing the happy closeness between the inauguration of the new lighting and the now upcoming Christmas, also hoped “that the understanding with Enel Sole will be very broad because there are so many spots in our city that need to be enhanced more through decorum, and lighting is part of a city’s decorum.”

For the lighting of the castle, Enel Sole has installed 16 new floodlights of various powers, ranging from 150 up to 1,200 W. On the cliff on Via Partenope, two floodlights are placed to illuminate the north side of the castle, while five others have been placed on the main facade. On the south side, however, two supports house six more floodlights and three more are located in the Ramaglietto area.
The work also included the complete replacement of existing metalwork, the overhaul of all protection and control panels and all floodlights in the old system. “Being able to implement the new installation in just over a month,” Pisani said, “was a challenge, but the renewed artistic lighting of Castel dell’Ovo enhances its architecture and enhances its peculiar location, giving one of the oldest monuments in the city of Naples an evocative luminous appearance.
